Many people do not even realize all the contaminants that exist in the air we breathe every single day, and how it affects not only our AC and heating systems, but our overall health as well. Our indoor air quality has become a major health and safety concern. In the United States, people tend to spend the majority of their time indoors, so it is important to maintain a higher quality of air. You may not realize this, but indoor air is generally 2 to 5 times more polluted than outdoor air! In fact, medical studies have shown that because of today's indoor contaminants, the human respiratory system is forced to eliminate up to 2 heaping tablespoons of contaminated particulates each day! These pollutants include dust, dust mites, pet dander, dead skin cells, carbon dioxide, perfumes and colognes, body odors, gases and vapors, microbial contaminants, mold, asbestos, and even ozone.

Improper heating and ventilation systems, or inadequately maintained ones, also greatly impact our indoor air quality. It is important to be aware of these issues and monitor the effects of them so that we can improve our day to day air quality, therefore hopefully increasing our quality of life in general. It is imperative that if these issues are prevalent, we take steps to correct them or they could lead to much more serious health issues later in life.
